This privacy notice explains how STEP uses any personal information we collect about you when you use this website.

What information do we collect about you?

JOB SEEKER PROFILES

When you create an account as a job seeker, the Jobs Board platform (ZipRecruiter Inc) collects the following information:

  • Email Address
  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Password
  • IP Address - used for security purposes

You can then optionally provide the following information:

  • Phone Number
  • Photo
  • Location (City/State) - we geocode this location to a Longitude/Latitude in order to facilitate distance based search on the Profile Database search
  • Longitude/Latitude - geocoded from Location value
  • Resume (PDF/Word/Text)
  • Social Media Links (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter)
  • Employment history
  • Educational history
  • Certifications or Professional Licenses
  • Skills

When is this information shared?

When you apply to a job advertisement ('Job Ad'), your email address, name, resume/CV and cover letter are sent to the employer (specifically to the email address designated by the employer as the 'Apply via Email' address when the employer posted the Job Ad).

If you have made it visible, an employer with appropriate permissions may view your Profile Data (excluding your email address and IP address).

JOB APPLICANTS

If you apply to Job Ads without creating an account, the following applies.

Apply via Email

In the case where a Job Ad is set up as an Apply via Email (i.e. where the job board hosts the Job Application form), the following information is collected:

  • Email Address
  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Resume
  • Cover Letter
  • Source - if we are able to identify where a job seeker came from, this information will be collected, e.g., ZipRecruiter, Indeed, Twitter, Email Campaign, etc.

Information about the job seeker-applicant’s email address, first name, last name, resume/CV, and cover letter, will be shared with the Employer who posted the Job Ad.

Apply via URL

In the case where the Job Ad is set up as an Apply via URL (i.e., where the job seeker is taken to an external website to complete the application), the following information is collected when the job seeker clicks on the 'Apply to this Job' button:

  • IP Address - we use the IP Address to geocode the location for reporting purposes and then store an anonymised version of the IP address (i.e. 127.123.123.000)
  • City, State, Zip Code - based on IP address geocoding
  • Longitude, Latitude - based on IP address geocoding
  • User Agent - device and browser i.e. iPhone, Windows, Firefox
  • Referring Website or Search Engine (if this information is available to us) - where the visitor came from i.e. Google Search
  • Source - if we are able to identify where a job seeker came from, this information will be collected, e.g., ZipRecruiter, Indeed, Twitter, Email Campaign, etc.

JOB ALERT SUBSCRIBERS

When you sign up for job alert emails, the Jobs Board platform (ZipRecruiter Inc) collects the following information:

  • Email address
  • Search preferences/search query - i.e. 'accountancy jobs' in 'New York, NY'

EMPLOYERS

When an employer customer registers for an account, the Jobs Board platform (ZipRecruiter Inc) collects the following information:

  • Email Address
  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Password
  • IP Address - used for security purposes

Employers can then optionally provide the following information:

  • Phone Number
  • Company Name
  • Company Description
  • Logo
  • Additional Media (Image, Videos)
  • Company Location (Street Address/City/State) - ZipRecruiter geocode this location to a Longitude/Latitude in order to facilitate distance-based search on the Profile Database search
  • Longitude/Latitude - geocoded from Location value

How will we use the information about you?

We collect information about you to enable the above-mentioned jobs board functionality, to personalise and improve your repeat visits and for statistical analysis. STEP will not provide your personal information to third parties for any other purpose than those outlined above.

How does STEP justify lawfulness of processing?

STEP has identified the following subparagraphs within Article 6 that enables us to lawfully process personal data.

Article 6:1a Consent - on Profile Registration, Employer Registration, Job Apply Form or Job Alert Sign Up you need to provide explicit consent that you agree to this Privacy Policy.

What security measures are in place?

STEP uses industry-standard SSL certificates to encrypt website traffic to safeguard all data sent and received.

Data retention

Where a payment has been made, STEP will retain your personal data for six years for compliance with the UK Companies Act 2006. If legally required, or where a complaint has been made about a member, STEP may retain your details further but only under specific circumstances.

Access to your information and correction

You have the right to request a copy of the information that we hold about you. If you would like a copy of some or all of your personal information, please email or write to us at the following address. Depending on the extent of the request, we may make a small charge for this service. We want to make sure that your personal information is accurate and up to date. You may ask us to correct or remove information you think is inaccurate.

Cookies

Cookies are text files placed on your computer to collect standard internet log information and visitor behaviour information.
